Hello!

Welcome to my blog, Living for the Dayse!  As a wife, mother and business woman, I sometimes feel like life is a bit of a whirlwind.  But with the ups and downs of life, it is Family that lies at the heart of who we are.  Here, I will share some of the good, the bad and all the in-between, while embracing my inner strengths on this journey through life.

A Dapper and Dainty Affair: Our First Annual Dayse Family Easter Egg Roll

A Dapper and Dainty Affair: Our First Annual Dayse Family Easter Egg Roll

Being a mother of boys, I often find myself stuck fighting the urge to dress them up in tutus and tiaras!  There is a need to do almost anything to fill the void of lace, ribbon and flowers. So Spring, more specifically Easter, has quickly become one of my favorite times of year.  Not only because of the celebration of Jesus and his resurrection, which I cannot go without mentioning for obvious reasons, but also because it's the one time of year I can dress my handsome sons up in seersucker and pink without feeling like I am infringing on their manliness.  Yes, I know it's not right to push gender roles or to stereotype colors. But I grew up rather traditionally, so when it comes to raising my kid in this new generation there are some things I just do not “encourage.” Nonetheless, for Easter all the rules go out the window and lace and flowers become even more than okay; they are necessities.

Last year I was able to contain my excitement to overstuffed Easter baskets along with the Christening of my youngest baby boy.  But this year was going to be much more exciting.  After months of contemplating, I decided this year I would throw my first Easter Egg Roll.  And because I am starved of the girly frills and cursed with the need for perfection, this Egg Roll was about to drive me MAD (in a good way of course)!  The first thing I had to do was come up with a theme.  I knew that I had to encourage all of the parents to dress their children up for the occasion which meant that I needed a theme that would easily convey this.  What better than a Dapper and Dainty Affair?  From there everything else began to flow.  So after multiple visits to my favorite stores (Michaels, Pottery Barn Kids, Peir 1 Imports and Target), I was able to get everything I needed to make this party a glitzy success.

I think all of my guests would definitely agree this Egg Roll was one to remember.  And possibly, just possibly, a new Annual Dayse Family Event.  Well, at least as long as I remain a mother of boys.

Signing Off,

P.S. Read more about the details of the event below.

I wanted to make this Easter Brunch & Roll super exciting for the kids.  This meant we had to have an Egg Hunt, Egg Roll and of course an Easter bunny appearance.

For the Egg Hunt I bought around 200 plastic eggs of varying sizes on Amazon.  My goal was to make sure that each child could collect about 15 eggs.  There is nothing worst than an egg hunt where the kids walk away with an empty basket.  I also suggest separating your eggs into two groups- edible and non-edible items.  When I laid out the eggs I made sure to place both edible and non-edible eggs in each area so the kids would get a variety.  In my non-edible eggs I used small water squirters, finger puppets, stickers and homemade play dough.  Just make sure that you look at dimensions of the small toys and buy eggs to accommodate the varying sizes.  For the edible eggs I used Black Forest Organic Gummy Bears and Black Forest Organic Jelly Beans. I also found Annie's Homegrown Organic Cereals and Snacks are great easter egg fillers because most of the snacks are shaped like bunnies.  I used the berry bunny cereal and cheddar bunnies, but there are many more options to choose from.  You can purchase these items from Whole Foods, Target or Amazon. Lastly, if you are dealing with young toddlers, please remember to consider possible choking hazards and remind the parents  to watch their children with the eggs.  You can cut jelly beans in half if this is helpful.

For the Egg Roll make sure you have plenty of boiled eggs.  I would recommend at least two eggs per child.  The toddlers often break their eggs and come back crying for a second.  I had a friend decorate the boiled eggs to make them extra special and fun.  For those of you that are unfamiliar with how an egg roll works, myself included before hosting this event, it is pretty simple.  You set up a start and finish line and use a long wooden spoon to push the egg along the grass.  I would describe it as the Easter version of miniature golf, without the hole of course.  You will be pleasantly surprised at the smiles on the children's faces as they drive their eggs towards the finish line and back again--because once is never enough.

The Easter Bunny handed out Yum Earth organic lollipops and bubbles for some extra fun.  Yum Earth lollipops are delicious and a family favorite.  You can buy either the Yum Earth Organic fruit  lollipops or try the Yum Earth Organic Vitamin C pops which each have about 100% of your kids daily vitamin C dosage.   You can buy cute bubble wands almost anywhere (Michaels, Target, Dollar Store);  but I got the bunny bubble wands from Target on special during Easter.  I contemplated hiring a bunny, but found this bunny costume on Amazon for half the price.  Just make sure you find someone willing to put the costume on and play the part!
